How to use Image Cropper

  1. Upload your image

Click the upload area or drag and drop a PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, or BMP file.

  2. Choose an aspect ratio or preset

Select a standard ratio (1:1, 4:3, 16:9, 3:2, 9:16) or a social media preset like Instagram Post or YouTube Thumbnail to snap the crop selection to the correct proportions.

  3. Adjust the crop region

Drag the selection handles to resize the crop area or click inside to reposition it. The rule-of-thirds grid overlay helps guide composition.

  4. Set output format and quality

Choose PNG for lossless output, JPG or WebP for smaller files. Adjust the quality slider for lossy formats.

  5. Crop and download

Click Crop & Download to save the cropped result to your device.

Image Cropper FAQ

Are my images uploaded to a server?

No. All cropping is performed locally in your browser using the Canvas API. Your files never leave your device.

What social media presets are included?

Instagram Post (1080×1080), Instagram Story (1080×1920), Facebook Cover (820×312), Twitter/X Header (1500×500), YouTube Thumbnail (1280×720), and LinkedIn Profile (400×400).

Can I crop to exact pixel dimensions?

Yes. Enter custom width and height values in the dimension fields, or lock to an aspect ratio and resize to any size you need.

Does touch work on mobile?

Yes. The crop editor supports touch gestures — drag and pinch on phones and tablets to resize and reposition the selection.

What is the rule-of-thirds grid?

The rule of thirds is a photography composition principle that divides the frame into nine equal sections. Placing your subject on one of the grid intersections typically produces more visually interesting crops than dead-centre framing.

Is there a maximum file size?

Files up to 50MB are accepted. Very large images may take a moment to render in the canvas editor.

What output formats are available?

PNG (lossless, supports transparency), JPG (smaller files, no transparency), and WebP (best quality-to-size ratio). Quality is adjustable for JPG and WebP.

Can I crop a GIF?

GIF files can be uploaded as input. The output will be a static PNG/JPG/WebP crop of the first frame — animated GIF cropping is not supported.

Background

Crop any image with a precise visual editor — no software to install, no account required. Drag handles to resize the crop selection, click inside to reposition, or lock to a preset aspect ratio for pixel-perfect results.

Aspect ratio presets cover the most common use cases: 1:1 for square social posts, 16:9 for YouTube thumbnails and widescreen, 4:3 for presentations, 3:2 for classic photography prints, and 9:16 for portrait Stories content. Social media presets go a step further with exact pixel dimensions for Instagram posts and Stories, Facebook cover photos, Twitter/X headers, YouTube channel art, and LinkedIn profile images.

A rule-of-thirds grid overlay helps you compose the shot before cropping — a simple but effective tool for anyone who wants to think about composition rather than just trimming edges. The crop selection supports touch gestures so the tool works on phones and tablets.

Output formats: PNG (lossless), JPG (smaller files), or WebP (best quality-to-size). Quality slider for lossy formats. All processing uses the Canvas API locally — your images never leave your device.
