GIF to JPG Converter FAQ

What happens with animated GIFs?

Only the first frame of an animated GIF is extracted and converted to JPG. The animation is not preserved, as JPG is a static image format.

What happens to transparent areas?

JPG does not support transparency. Transparent pixels in the GIF are filled with white. If you need to preserve transparency, convert to PNG instead.

Why is JPG smaller than GIF for photos?

GIF is limited to 256 colors and uses lossless LZW compression, which is inefficient for photographs. JPG uses lossy compression optimised for photos, producing much smaller files with better color depth.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. All conversion runs in your browser using the Canvas API. Your files never leave your device.

Can I convert multiple GIF files at once?

Yes. Drop multiple GIF files and download all converted JPGs in one click.

Should I convert to PNG or JPG?

Use JPG for photographic GIFs where file size matters. Use PNG if you need lossless quality or need to preserve transparency.

What quality setting should I use?

85–92% offers a good balance for most images. Use 95%+ for high-quality output, or 70–80% for small thumbnails where size is the priority.

Can I use this tool on mobile?

Yes. The tool works on any modern mobile browser — iPhone Safari, Chrome for Android, and others.

Will the JPG be larger than the original GIF?

For photographic images, JPG will usually be smaller. For simple graphics with few colors, GIF may have been smaller. The quality slider lets you control the output size.

Background

Convert GIF images to compressed JPG format directly in your browser — no upload, no signup, and no software required. For animated GIFs, the first frame is automatically extracted and converted to a static JPG image.

JPG compression produces significantly smaller files than GIF for photographic and gradient-heavy content. Use the quality slider to control the trade-off: higher values (90–95%) preserve near-original detail, while lower values (70–80%) produce the smallest possible file for thumbnails and previews. Note that JPG does not support transparency — any transparent areas are filled with white.

Batch conversion is supported: drop multiple GIF files at once and download all JPGs in a single click. All processing runs client-side using the Canvas API.
