TIFF to JPG Converter FAQ

How much smaller will the JPG be compared to the TIFF?

Typically 80–95% smaller. A 50 MB TIFF scan might convert to a 2–5 MB JPG at 92% quality with no perceptible difference for most viewers.

What is TIFF format?

TIFF (Tagged Image File Format) is a lossless, uncompressed image format widely used in scanners, professional cameras, GIS/mapping software, and print workflows. Its large file size is the trade-off for perfect pixel fidelity.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The TIFF is decoded and converted entirely in your browser. Your files never leave your device.

What about multi-page TIFFs?

Currently only the first page is converted. Multi-page TIFF support is planned for a future update.

Will transparent areas be preserved?

No. JPG does not support transparency. Transparent areas are filled with white. Use TIFF to PNG if you need transparency preserved.

Can I batch convert multiple TIFF files?

Yes. Drop multiple TIFF or TIF files and download all converted JPGs in a single click.

What quality setting should I use?

92% is the recommended default for sharing. Use 95%+ for archiving scans where maximum quality matters. Use 80–85% for web thumbnails and email attachments.

Can I open the converted JPG on Windows?

Yes. JPG is universally supported by all operating systems, apps, and social media platforms.

Is TIFF lossless?

Standard TIFF is lossless (no compression or lossless LZW compression). Converting to JPG introduces lossy compression — use a high quality setting to minimise quality loss.

Can I use this tool on mobile?

Yes. The tool works on any modern mobile browser — iPhone Safari, Chrome for Android, and others.

Background

Convert TIFF and TIF images to compressed JPG format directly in your browser — no upload, no signup, no software installation required. TIFF is the standard format for scanners, professional cameras, and print workflows — it stores images without compression, resulting in files that are often 20–100 MB. Converting to JPG reduces those sizes by 80–95% while preserving good visual quality.

Use the quality slider to control compression: 92% delivers excellent visual quality at a significant size reduction, ideal for email, web, and social media sharing. Higher settings (95%+) preserve maximum detail for archival purposes. Lower settings (75–85%) produce the smallest files for web thumbnails.

Note that JPG does not support transparency — transparent areas are filled with white. For multi-page TIFF files, the first page is converted. Batch conversion is supported — drop multiple TIFF files at once and download all JPGs in a single click. Processing runs client-side; your files never leave your device.
