TIFF to PNG Converter FAQ

Will I lose quality converting TIFF to PNG?

No. Both TIFF and PNG are lossless formats. The conversion preserves every pixel exactly — no compression artefacts are introduced.

What about multi-page TIFFs?

Currently only the first page is converted. Multi-page TIFF support is planned for a future update.

Is my file uploaded to a server?

No. The TIFF is decoded in your browser using the utif2 library. Your files never leave your device.

Where do TIFF files come from?

TIFF is the standard format for document scanners, professional digital cameras, GIS/mapping software, print workflows, and medical imaging. It's common in professional and archival contexts but rare on the web.

Is transparency preserved?

Yes. PNG supports full alpha transparency. If your TIFF contains transparent layers, they are preserved in the PNG output.

How does PNG compare to TIFF in file size?

PNG files are typically 30–70% smaller than uncompressed TIFF files. TIFF can use LZW compression, which brings it closer to PNG sizes, but uncompressed TIFF is much larger.

Can I batch convert multiple TIFF files?

Yes. Drop multiple TIFF or TIF files and download all converted PNGs in a single click.

Why use PNG instead of JPG for TIFF conversion?

PNG is lossless — zero additional quality loss. JPG introduces lossy compression, which adds artefacts especially visible on sharp edges in scanned documents. Use PNG when quality must be preserved; use JPG when smaller file size matters more than perfect fidelity.

What apps can open PNG files?

Virtually every application — Photoshop, GIMP, Figma, web browsers, Windows Photos, macOS Preview, and all major social media platforms — supports PNG natively.

Can I use this tool on mobile?

Yes. The tool works on any modern mobile browser on iPhone and Android.

Background

Convert TIFF and TIF images to lossless PNG format directly in your browser — no upload, no signup, no software installation required. TIFF is widely used in scanners, professional cameras, GIS mapping software, and print workflows, but is not widely supported on the web. PNG gives you a universally compatible file with the same lossless quality — every pixel preserved, no compression artefacts.

Unlike converting to JPG, converting TIFF to PNG is completely lossless. PNG also supports full alpha transparency. The resulting PNG will be smaller than the original TIFF but larger than a JPG equivalent — the trade-off for zero quality loss. For multi-page TIFF files, the first page is converted.

Batch conversion is fully supported — drop multiple TIFF files at once and download all PNGs in a single click. Processing runs entirely client-side using the utif2 library; your files never leave your device.
